How To Avoid Cyber Attacks and Scammers

Every year, people are reporting new cases of online fraud, identity theft, and phone scam. We at Centric Benefits take cybersecurity very serious, so here are some general tips and red flags to prevent yourself from becoming the next scammed victim:

- Make sure to register your cell or work number on the Do Not Disturb Registry, which is free
- Do not answer or interact with unknown numbers
- Never provide personal information in response to an unexpected phone call or email request, especially if the caller or sender is pressuring you to take immediate action
- Resist the pressure to act immediately based on a call or email, since a legitimate business or government agency will always provide you ample time to decide or provide payment

If you spot a scam or have accidentally given money or private information to a scammer, you can immediately report it to the FTC by filing a consumer complaint online or calling 1-877-FTC-HELP (382-4357). Also make sure to notify other important parties such as your employer and debit/credit card company, for instance.
